XC40
Small on the outside, generous on the inside.
The XC40 is the Volvo that fits Northern Virginia life. Confident in Beltway traffic, easy to park in Clarendon, and quietly luxurious once the doors close.

Tell me your budget and must-haves, and I'll text you back the two or three XC40s actually worth your time — with real out-the-door numbers.

Hi, I’m Inna. I put this page together for anyone considering the XC40.
Everything here is what I usually walk my clients through in person — the trims that actually matter, how the powertrains compare, and what the numbers look like. If a question pops up, just text me. I answer fast, and I’ll save you the back-and-forth with the floor.
Available XC40s right now.
The three things I’ll say about the XC40 first.
Right-sized for the DMV
Under 175 inches long — the same footprint as a small hatchback, with the visibility and cargo of a proper SUV.
B5 mild-hybrid efficiency
247 hp with a 48-volt hybrid system that harvests braking energy and smooths out stop-and-go traffic on I-66.
Google built-in
Native Google Maps, Assistant, and Play — no more phone-mirroring gymnastics on the way to the airport.

Most people cross-shop the XC40 against a GLA or an X1 and come back because of the interior. It doesn't feel like a small car once you're sitting in it — that's the part you can't tell from photos.
Built on Volvo's compact modular platform, the XC40 pairs a mild-hybrid B5 powertrain with the tall driving position and design language of its larger siblings. It's the entry point into the Volvo world — but never feels like one.
- First-time Volvo buyers
- City drivers in Arlington, Falls Church, Alexandria
- Couples or small families who want a real SUV feel without the size
- Anyone stepping up from a compact German luxury car
Ways to drive it.
2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder with 48V hybrid assist, 8-speed automatic, standard all-wheel drive.

There's one powertrain to think about here, which makes this an easy decision. The B5 mild hybrid is smooth in stop-and-go on I-66 and you never plug it in.
Safety, cabin, technology.
- Standard City Safety collision-avoidance with pedestrian, cyclist and large-animal detection
- Blind Spot Information with Steer Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert with braking
- Pilot Assist adaptive cruise with lane centering (Plus and Ultimate)
- 360° Surround View Camera on Ultimate — genuinely useful in tight garages
- Run-off Road Mitigation and Oncoming Lane Mitigation, standard
- Nordico or Fine Nappa upholstery, depending on trim
- Real driftwood or metal-mesh décor inlays — no fake carbon
- Panoramic moonroof standard on Plus and Ultimate
- Removable trash bin, felt-lined glove box, and phone slot behind the shifter
- 60/40 folding rear seat with under-seat storage
- 9" portrait touchscreen with Google built-in
- 12.3" digital driver display
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Harman Kardon premium audio (Ultimate)
- 4G data plan and over-the-air software updates

The features people actually notice on the test drive: the seats, how quiet it is at 65, and the 360 camera in a Clarendon garage. Everything else is a nice-to-have.
The numbers, briefly.

If you park on the street or in a tight condo garage, this is the Volvo I'd point you at. It's short enough to be genuinely easy and still swallows a stroller.
What an XC40 actually costs
The sticker is only part of it. What most people really want to know is the monthly payment, what their trade is worth, and whether leasing or financing makes more sense for how long they keep a car. I'll walk you through all three in plain language before you come in.
Payments, lease programs and current Volvo offers change monthly — text me and I'll quote you today's real numbers.
Text me for today’s numbers“I don't want to be sold to.”
I'm one person, not a floor team. If the XC40 isn't right for you, I'll say so and point you to the one that is.
“I don't want to waste a Saturday.”
Text me first. I'll send photos, real pricing and availability so you only drive out when it's worth it.
“I'm worried about pricing games.”
You get the out-the-door number in writing before you come in. No surprises at the desk.
“The XC40 is the Volvo I recommend most to people leaving a GLA, Q3, or X1. Plus trim is the sweet spot — you get Pilot Assist and the panoramic roof without paying Ultimate money.”
About the XC40.
Is the XC40 available as a hybrid?+
The gas XC40 is a mild-hybrid (B5) — a 48V system, not a plug-in. For a fully electric XC40, look at the EX40.
Does it fit a rear-facing car seat?+
Comfortably behind the front passenger, and passably behind the driver — I'll help you check fit before you commit.
How's the winter drive?+
Standard all-wheel drive plus Volvo's tall driving position make it one of the easiest luxury SUVs to live with in snow.

The mistake I see on the XC40: people stretch to a trim they don't need. Tell me your top three must-haves and I'll tell you honestly where to stop.
Tell me what you need. I’ll do the sorting.
